Don’t you love the change in seasons? Particularly the one that Heaven sends every August, you know the one
merging into football season? Summer and all the humidity, but I always rest assure, knowing that this time won’t last forever. There is always a new season around the corner.
I am pretty sure I can effortlessly assume that I am not the only one around here praying and believing for something big in my life. I can also imagine that I am not alone when it comes to feeling like God isn’t hearing me quick enough, or maybe He hears me, but He’s just not moving when I want or expect Him to. Come on God, what are you doing up there? You said to make my requests known, so I did and nothing has come through for me yet. I mean, I know you created the universe and all, but are you sure you know what you’re doing?
Oh the audacity we have to even approach His throne with such pride and lack of reverence. I admit I question Him too, Lord, forgive me. We love when James 4:2 says let your request be made known to God, and boy, do we ever. Usually we let Him know our agenda and request that it’s met in a convenient and time affective manner. Well, if we keep reading James lets us know, You ask, and don’t receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it for your pleasures. Ouch! 1st on the to-do list: heart check.
If He doesn’t meet what’s on our agenda or make it happen when we thought it would or think it should, we get frustrated and try do it ourselves. Our job is not to try and figure out how to make things happen, it is to be obedient. Honestly I admit I choose trying to take charge over choosing obedience sometimes. Lord, forgive me again.
Our biggest struggle is to believe that God wants better for us than we do!
We can’t possibly get into our thick skulls there is anyway that where He has us today will catapult us to where He has for us tomorrow, or that He wants the best for us! Doesn’t His ways always end up being better anyway? If we are His sheep, all we have to do is follow the Sheppard. That takes ALL the pressure off of us to figure it out.
Ok, so we finally put our agenda aside and accept our season. Sometimes the season isn’t glamorous, it’s usually a time for growth, faith building, and learning to wait. We may not be happy or particularly successful in this season, but like I said, if we are obedient, God can’t help but honor that.
Could you imagine if the next time you went to a restaurant your waiter just stood around the entire time, never approach the table, took your order or delivered your food? Their tip would be down the drain and more than likely they’d be out of a job. Waiting on someone is not standing around checking the clock. Waiting is serving. When was the last time you approached His table, served Him, blessed Him, and asked Him what He needed from you? Or are we standing around asking him every five minutes why He hasn’t come through for our requests we’ve made known.
Rest in the lord, and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass.
While you wait you are developing patience.
Patience: (synonyms) endurance, staying power, persistence, lack of complaint
- Transforms us into His image (2 Corinthians 3:18)
- Develops our faith (Hebrews 11:6)
- Increases development so we can receive the harvest that’s on the way and know what to do with is when it comes!
