2013 Fall Previews: Alabama Crimson Tide

Alabama finds itself in the unique and enviable position of two-time defending national champion as the 2013 season starts. While almost every team must replace departed players from one year to the next, the 2013 edition of the Alabama Crimson Tide retains a veteran presence throughout its roster, as well as returning its star quarterback and most of its playmakers on both sides of the ball.

Former Bama stars get ready to make NFL jump

The 2013 NFL Draft kicks off Thursday night, and as is becoming custom in the Nick Saban era, the phone lines between New York and Alabama might get a little busy. While picking draft landing spots is almost entirely guesswork – TideFans.com’s success rate over the past few years is comical, to be honest – this still should give readers a rough estimate of the general round timeframe in which Alabama players are likely to go off the board. Here’s the list of draft-eligible Crimson Tiders, and their potential landing spots

Missouri wrap-up: Tigers get proper introduction to the basics of SEC football

For all the argument over the speed and excitement of a spread-style offense, American football in general and SEC football specifically is about controlling the trenches and hammering the other side until it quits. Because when a spread offense doesn’t work – as it didn’t for Missouri on Saturday, or for media darling West Virginia against Texas Tech earlier in the day – the results are as ugly as a body-painted Mizzou student after four hours of rain, smuggled-in adult beverages and grass end zone seating.

Cyrus Kouandijo walked the sidelines of the BCS Championship Game and could only watch as his team mates fought and won yet another national championship. Though he was walking without a noticeable limp, there was no way the staff was going to let Cyrus risk his health or to be exact, his knee and risk losing him for 2012 as well.

Will Alabama finally surpass the “Golden Age” Dynasty of Coach Bryant?

In the sixties and seventies, Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant established a “dynasty” at Alabama that made them the team of those decades. He ended his 25 year career at Alabama with six national titles.

But is Nick Saban about to establish his own dynasty and what are the chances that it could surpass those of the legendary “Bear” Bryant’s best decades?

You decide…

GSU wrap-up: Tide happy to get out of new ‘wishbone era’ alive

There was nothing fun about this game, unless you’re the type that finds wonderment in carnival sideshows featuring bald guys who attach chains to various body piercings and suspend themselves from the ceiling. While Alabama was never really threatened by the Eagles, Alabama was also never comfortable. Were it not for a late touchdown, the margin of victory in this game would have threatened to shuffle Alabama’s standing in BCS rankings, were it not for Oregon and Oklahoma flubbing up against Southern Cal and Baylor, respectively.

MSU wrap-up: Alabama gets back to basics with win over Bulldogs

Rock band The Afters counts among its songs one titled “Never Going Back To OK.” Alabama did just that against Mississippi State and it was just what the doctor ordered. Aside from the running back tandem of Trent Richardson and Eddie Lacy, Alabama was mostly just OK. But Alabama’s OK is better than the best 10 other SEC teams have to offer.

Arkansas preview: Razorbacks have had this one circled for a year

Both Arkansas and Alabama are in a similar spot in 2011. Both teams have new quarterbacks and have opened with three wins over opponents that appeared to be grossly overmatched. This will be the first test for Arkansas, and perhaps the first for Alabama as well, depending on one’s opinion of Penn State. Arkansas has been talking this game up as a program-changer.

UNT prevew: Mean Green in for a mean reception in Tuscaloosa

Alabama is readying for North Texas, but exactly how much of a contest this will actually be is debatable.

While Auburn was busy getting shocked out of its socks against Utah State, Alabama was reading from a script against Kent State in Tuscaloosa Saturday.
