If anyone thought Ed Orgeron was capable of winning a national title and then maintaining an even keel in the years to follow, they simply don't know Ed Orgeron. Keeping up with what has happened at LSU over the last 11 months – no, it hasn't even been a full year yet since LSU was on top of the world, although to many LSU fans it probably feels like a decade already – requires a baseball scorer's book. Or maybe a copy of the board game “Clue.”
Covid-19 waited in the wings to make its biggest sports-related impact in the state of Alabama until the moment when the spotlight was the brightest, throwing back its cloak, twitching its mustache and stealing the spotlight of Alabama-Auburn week by kidnapping Nick Saban and rushing from the stage, cackling as it departed. Given all of what has transpired during this season, was anyone surprised?
The Predictions Dept. is slowly getting back to its typical success rate in SEC games, no thanks to Covid-19, and finally has a somewhat full slate of games to work with in Week 9. There isn't really a headliner, though, as none of the games on the SEC slate are particularly meaningful. The best of the bunch may be the LSU-Arkansas matchup due to the controversy boiling in Baton Rouge.
While Alabama has certainly had its fair share of bad outcomes against division rivals LSU and Auburn, one of the more underrated matchups every year in the SEC is watching Alabama take on Texas A&M.
Former Aggie QB Johnny Manziel made it that way; prior to Manziel arriving, Alabama seemed to dispatch Texas A&M regularly and without a lot of fanfare. Manziel seemed to reset the cosmos in College Station, and subsequent quarterbacks have tried (mostly in vain, admittedly) to follow in his footsteps.
Welcome to the first week of previews for the 2020 season, as we begin to sail into uncharted territory thanks to a bunch of bats. With an all-SEC, every-week schedule, we'll be facing a greater challenge in regards to keeping our success rate up for picking games. No Alabama-Western Carolinas in 2020, folks. Week 1 features some intriguing matchups, with maybe Kentucky-Auburn being at the top of that list simply due to the difficulty in figuring out just each team has.
The Predictions Dept. closed out the 2019 regular season with a pretty solid Week 14. Only the Alabama-Auburn game proved to be a thorn in its side, but what a thorn it was.
The Predictions Dept. had probably one of its most accurate weeks, score-wise (including hitting Auburn's 52-0 slaughter of Samford dead on the nose), but we continue to overrate a Missouri Tiger team that completely skipped the dead-cat-bounce stage and went straight to being dead cats. This week, everyone knows the premier matchup: Alabama vs. Auburn. But there are a handful of games out there that will probably be quite close, including one or two you probably aren't expecting.

Heading into Week 9, there's one blockbuster and a handful of blockhead games. Auburn faces LSU in the hands-down premier match of the week, while the next-most interesting game is … Alabama-Arkansas? And that, only because of the drama surrounding the Crimson Tide's quarterback depth chart.
