A-Day 2014: Vanilla offense sputters, defense takes big step forward

For a fan base that was on the edge of its seats Saturday, watching with great interest the battle at quarterback, A-Day didn’t tell them much. Thanks to A-Day rules which completely remove QB scrambles from the list of possible outcomes – anything wearing a black jersey is considered “sacked” if they so happen to get breathed upon by a defensive lineman – Blake Sims might as well have been a boat anchor. A-Day ended up being a poor barometer of Sims’ skill set, and the quarterback competition is no clearer now than it was prior to the game.

ne of college football’s greatest attributes is its pre-programmed turnover. At least every five years, teams are guaranteed to have a completely new starting lineup compared to the ones they fielded five years prior.

For Alabama, there will be 12 positions this season changing hands. But several other positions figure to be up for grabs as well.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama Crimson Tide held the second and final full scrimmage of fall camp Saturday afternoon in Bryant-Denny Stadium. The scrimmage lasted more than two hours and included 50 plays of regular game scrimmaging, situational down and distance, red area, goalline, coming out and two-minute.

Thursday Practice Report: Tide focus on mental intensity

Wednesday Practice Report:White speaks on WR battle

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama football team took to the practice field this morning for its final two-a-day workouts before finishing the day with an evening workout.

The Crimson Tide completed practices No. 15 and 16 of the 28 workouts leading up to their season-opener against Kent State on September 3 at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The first session of Wednesday’s two practices began at 9:30 with a two hour workout in full pads and the second session in shells got under way at 7:30.

Tuesday Practice Report: Saban pleased with progress

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama football team held a single two-hour practice session on Tuesday at the Thomas-Drew Practice Fields, marking the 14th training session of fall camp for the Crimson Tide.

“Yesterday we probably had the best two practices we have had in a day,” Alabama head coach Nick Saban said. “I like the way the players responded to making the corrections and improvements we needed to make after the scrimmage.”

Football Starts Week with Two Practices

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama football team returned to practice on Monday after a day off from the scrimmage to participate in its third two-a-day of fall camp. The Crimson Tide opened the day with a two hour practice at 9:30 a.m., in full pads and then will return to the facility in shells at 7:30 p.m.
