TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama football team returned to practice on Monday after a day off from the scrimmage to participate in its third two-a-day of fall camp. The Crimson Tide opened the day with a two hour practice at 9:30 a.m., in full pads and then will return to the facility in shells at 7:30 p.m.

“We’ve been working hard, especially on first team defense,” junior linebacker Dont’a Hightower said. “We came in and said we don’t want people to run the ball against us. We strike upfront; linebackers are getting to the ball quick. The secondary is pretty good so we are able to break down a safety in the box every now and then. We look good but if we want to be the number one defense in the country there are still some things we have to work on.”

Alabama will practice five more times, including a two-a-day on Wednesday, before the second scrimmage of camp on Saturday. The Tide will then suit up 10 more times before the season opener against Kent State.

“Camp started out kind of rough but it’s starting to smooth out now,” senior wide receiver Marquis Maze said. “I had to get back into football shape and into the swing of things. You are using a lot more muscles doing football than conditioning and straight running.”

The Tide will open the season against the Flashes on Saturday, Sept. 3, with kick off scheduled for 11:21 a.m. The game will be televised by the SEC Network.
