An Olympic Gold for Our Southern Gentleman and the Island of Grenada

My heart danced like I was in the streets of Grenada last night, as I cheered for a special man, with an awesome spirit onto victory who went on to win the gold medal in the 400 meters.  The first Olympic medal of any kind for his humble little island of Grenada and our Bama Nation. Our gold medalist was a two-time NCAA champion at Alabama!

Kirani caught my undivided attention the night before, when shortly after winning his heat Sunday, he approached Pistorius – who didn’t advance to the final – and asked to trade bibs.

He trade nametags with Oscar! Oscar has no legs! A powerful way to show the world and all the negative media what he thought of Oscar being able to participate along side him as a “handicapped” man against able bodies.

The South African sprinter known as “Blade Runner” is inspirational to James. Pistorius runs on carbon fiber blades. Showing honor to a man who’s legs were amputated at 11 months old, but didn’t let his”disability” stop him from being one of the best runners in the world, well, a true southern gentlemen Kirani is. Roll Tide.

Our Alabama track star said, “Just spur of the moment, Oscar should be a huge inspiration for everybody, whether you’re a track athlete or a normal person. You can be somebody no matter what kind of disability you have.”

“Being out there and competing against Oscar is a huge honor for me. He’s a great guy, very down to earth. I’m happy to be here and compete against Oscar.”

So here’s to Alabama and our amazing Bama Nation breeding CHAMPIONS and true southern gentlemen.
Congrats Kirani, we’re proud to have been a part of your story! ROLL TIDE
