TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama football team went to work for two hours in full pads at the Thomas-Drew Practice Facility on Wednesday afternoon as it continues to prepare for its season opener on September 3, against Kent State.

“I am pumped up about the first game,” Alabama senior tight end Brad Smelley said. “It is something we have all looked forward to. We are done beating up on each other and are ready to get after somebody else.”

With Wednesday being the first day of classes on the University of Alabama campus, the team will now settle into its daily routine that will be carried out throughout the season. In addition, the Crimson Tide added 25 players to its roster, expanding from the 105 allotted during training camp.

“It has been a good fall camp,” Smelley added. “I think we have really matured as an offense. A lot of people have stepped up and started making plays. I feel good about where we are at right now. From the first practice to now is a different offense. We just need to keep being explosive and making plays down the field. If we do that, we are going to be successful.”

Alabama returns to the field on Thursday, as it will hold eight more practices prior to its first game.
