TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama football team took to the practice field this morning for its final day of two-a-day workouts before finishing the day with an evening workout at the Hank Crisp Practice Indoor Facility.

The Crimson Tide completed practices No. 15 and 16 of the 28 workouts leading up to their season-opener against Kent State on September 3 at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The first session of Wednesday’s two practices began at 9:30 with a two hour workout in full pads and the second session in shells got under way at 7:30.

“Fall camp has been going really well,” Alabama defensive lineman Nick Gentry said following Wednesday’s morning workout. “I think we are coming along as a team and everything has been real positive. We still have a long way to go, but we are going to work hard to get where we need to be.”

The Crimson Tide must replace three-year starter Julio Jones at wide receiver after he was taken with the sixth overall pick of the 2011 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons in April. Redshirt freshman DeAndrew White is one of the underclassmen who is working to earn a spot in the Tide’s wide receiver rotation.

“I’m just out there every day competing and working to get better,” White said. “I just want to help this team win and be the best player I can be. Everyone in our wide receiver corps is trying to step up and be a guy that helps us win.”

Alabama will practice at 2:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Then it will hold its second and final formal scrimmage of the preseason at 1 p.m. Saturday in Bryant-Denny Stadium. The scrimmage is closed to the general public and the news media.
