Recruiting 2016: Bama’s QB targets have common characteristic

The NARCAS (North American Recruiting, Coaching & Athletics Survey) contributing staff has utilized game tape for years, but as a site, we’ve never made it a part of our published, post-analysis reports. With the amount of video now readily available at low or no cost to consumers, the time is right to integrate some of that video into analysis reports for our readership. As in previous years, however, NARCAS rankings will not be assigned until after all players’ senior seasons have been completed.

Up first is a discussion of five quarterback targets for Alabama’s 2016 recruiting class

2014 Previews: Rating the Units

While college football might be a numbers game to some, putting objective numbers down to predict a team’s chances in the upcoming season can be a challenge – some say impossible.

The system we present to you tries to do the impossible. What follows is a ranking of every position group of every team in the SEC, and we try to make the results as objective as we can.

Via a process that first went to press nine years ago, TideFans/NARCAS expanded its rating system beyond the simple six-class system employed in the past. In all 14 SEC previews, you’ll notice eight unit divisions – quarterbacks (QB), running backs (RB), wide receivers and tight ends (WR), offensive line (OL), defensive line (DL), linebackers (LB), defensive backs (DB) and kickers, punters, return men and coverage units (ST, for special teams).

2014 Previews: Which freshmen will play?

One of the side effects to consistently signing classes that are stocked top-to-bottom with talent is that it gets difficult to project who will end up playing and who will finish the season with “RS” posted next to his name.

While nothing is certain until fall camp is over, here’s a look at the incoming freshmen and transfer signees on the 2014 Alabama football team, and a quick assessment of which players are most likely to play or not play during the upcoming season.

Tide 2014: Coker needs a chance, not crushing pressure

When Alabama football officially gets cranked back up for fall practice, the Jacob Coker Watch will start approximately 1 millisecond afterward.

Unfortunately for Coker, the expectations for him, which are already high, will simply continue to snowball over the course of the summer. And if Coker doesn’t come right out of the gate looking like some combination of Joe Namath, Peyton Manning, Y.A. Tittle, an M1A1 Abrams tank and Secretariat, the fan backlash could be the biggest thing since … well, since the last second of the 2013 Auburn game. There is no meltdown like that of an angry Alabama fan.

Reviewing the Class of 2007

Over the last two years, TideFans.com and NARCAS have taken a look back at old recruiting rankings, partially as a self-check, but also to see how players had progressed since arriving on campus. The 2007 team was Nick Saban’s first at Alabama, but Mike Shula’s fingerprints were still on the class. Several players committed first to Shula, but were retained by the incoming Saban regime.

By Jess Nicholas, TideFans.com Editor-In-Chief Feb. 3, 2012   If anyone has ever played EA Sports’ “NCAA Football” video game in “freshman” mode, he or she has a good understanding of college football in the Nick Saban era.   Alabama is making things look almost too easy.
